Despite the alarming number of safety complaints, the product remains on the market, emphasizing the need for heightened awareness and vigilance when considering baby activity jumpers.

Ashita Kapoor, associate director of product safety at CR, who first brought attention to the issue, adds,

“Complaints have been pouring in for the past two years, yet no action has been taken. The recurring nature and severity of these incidents make it absolutely imperative that this unsafe product is immediately taken off the market.”

CR reported that they conducted an investigation, uncovering numerous reviews on CoscoKids.com and Walmart.com where consumers shared their experiences of the activity centre’s straps suddenly tearing apart, causing the seat to dangle sideways or even lead to a complete fall. Though several injuries were reported, none were deemed life-threatening. These reviews have been surfacing since January 2021, raising significant concerns about the product’s safety and reliability.

Apart from customer complaints on the company websites, it was reported that the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) had also received at least four reports since July 2022. One of the incidents involved a 10-month-old infant who fell and hit their head, while another reported the baby becoming stuck in the seat, hanging upside down due to the extreme angle caused by a broken strap.

CR confirmed that they have alerted the appropriate authorities, including the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), so they can investigate the safety concerns associated with the Cosco Jump, Spin & Play Activity Center. The CPSC has acknowledged the issue and is currently looking into it.
