Urgent Safety Alert: Strangulation Hazard Prompts Recall of 4Moms Mamaroo 4.0 Swings
Attention, UK parents and caregivers! An important safety notice has been issued regarding the 4moms MamaRoo Swing and RockaRoo Rocker. These products are subject to an urgent recall due to a strangulation hazard that has tragically been linked to one infant death. Your child’s safety is paramount, which is why we urge you to be aware of this serious recall.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), along with Thorley Industries, LLC, d.b.a. 4moms, have announced the recall of approximately 2 million MamaRoo swings and 220,000 RockaRoo rockers in the United States, with an additional 60,000 MamaRoo swings and 10,000 RockaRoo rockers in Canada. While these products are primarily sold in North America, they may be available in the UK through online marketplaces, second-hand sales, or direct imports.
Which Models Are Affected?

The recall specifically includes:
MamaRoo Swing Models:
- Version 1.0 and 2.0 (model number 4M-005)
- Version 3.0 (model number 1026)
- Version 4.0 (model number 1037)
Important Note: Only MamaRoo models that use a 3-point harness are included in this recall. The newer MamaRoo Multi-Motion Baby Swing (model 1046) with a 5-point harness is NOT affected by this recall.
RockaRoo Rocker:
- All RockaRoo Rockers (model number 4M-012)
4Moms Recall – What Makes These Products Hazardous?
The recall identifies a specific safety concern with these products:
When the swing or rocker is not in use, the restraint straps can dangle below the seat. If non-occupant crawling infants access the area under the seat, they can become entangled in these straps, posing a strangulation hazard.
4moms has received two reports of entanglement incidents involving the MamaRoo swing, with devastating consequences:
- A 10-month-old infant tragically died from asphyxiation after becoming caught in the strap under an unoccupied MamaRoo swing
- Another 10-month-old infant suffered bruising to the neck before being rescued by a caregiver
No incidents involving the RockaRoo have been reported, but the product shares the same potential hazard.

If you own an affected 4moms MamaRoo swing or RockaRoo rocker, you should:
- If you have crawling infants: Immediately stop using the recalled swing or rocker and place it in an area where crawling infants cannot access it
- Contact 4moms for a free repair kit: 4moms has developed a strap fastener that attaches to the back of the seat to prevent the straps from dangling when not in use
